We answer all your questions

We recommend that you prioritize the criteria for choosing a Dunemer wheel as follows:

First, the wheel's load capacity, which is the most important criterion to ensure that the technical properties of Dunemer wheels are fully exploited.

Secondly, the wheel's size, diameter and width, to ensure it matches the machine's chassis.

Finally, some wheels are better suited to being steerable.

Each of these criteria is explained below.

Please note that all wheels are produced in all colors.

The desired load capacity is the estimated sum of the device weight and the maximum load weight.

Desired load capacity = Machine weight + Maximum load weight.

Desired load capacity per wheel = ( Unit weight + Maximum load weight ) / Number of wheels on unit

For example: for a 10 kg tricycle designed to carry a man weighing up to 110 kg and fitted with 3 Dunemer wheels, we recommend choosing Dunemer wheels with a load capacity of around 40 kg. The Dunemer 620-P100 wheel meets this requirement.

In case of doubt, we recommend choosing Dunemer wheels with a higher load capacity than estimated.

There is no technical contraindication to choosing an oversized wheel. Nevertheless, it will often be bulkier and more expensive than an adapted wheel.

Furthermore, the weight of a machine and its load is not always evenly distributed between the wheels. So it may be desirable to have different Dunemer wheel models, with different load capacities, between the front and rear of a unit.

The table below is given for information only, and is based on the assumption of an even weight distribution between the different wheels of the machine.

Wheel diameter and width must be chosen to suit the rolling equipment chassis and its intended use. In addition to a question of size, width and diameter, although not decisive, influence the technical properties of the wheels.

Diameter - The diameter of a wheel determines its ground clearance. The larger the diameter of the Dunemer wheel, the greater the ground clearance.

Note that Dunemer wheels are designed to run flat. At optimum load, the wheel is crushed by about a third of the radius, i.e. about 15% of the diameter.

On uneven ground, with almost equivalent load capacity, we recommend choosing the larger diameter Dunemer wheel, to give the chassis more height and prevent obstacles from touching the chassis.

Width - Width enhances the wheels' flotation and vibration-absorbing qualities (essentially provided by the elasticity and suppleness of the material).

For soft, unstable soils, with almost equivalent load capacity, we recommend choosing the wider Dunemer wheel to enhance flotation.

For hard, uneven soils, we recommend the wider Dunemer wheel to enhance vibration absorption.

Dimensional fluctuation - The diameter and width of a Dunemer wheel may fluctuate slightly, on the order of 1 to 2 cm. At any time, if desired, with the help of a pump and/or a balloon needle, these dimensions can be reset to the nominal case.

However, to avoid friction, we recommend a 2 cm margin on both diameter and width.

A filter based on load capacity and dimensions is available in the product catalog to help you make your choice.

For a directional wheel with equivalent load capacity, we recommend choosing a wheel with a fixed hub, i.e. a wheel whose name begins with 10xx, 6xx or 7xx.

The choice of color is above all a question of taste and suitability for your appliance and brand.

Nevertheless, for hot countries with temperatures regularly and continuously exceeding 40°, we recommend the lightest colors: yellow, orange, anise green, light blue or white.

Orders placed on the website are processed and delivered within 10 days in Metropolitan France.

Wheels are made to order. In accordance with current regulations, it is not possible to return a product.

Of course, this does not apply if the product delivered does not conform to the order. In this case, an exchange will be made at DUNEMER's expense.

DUNEMER wheels are easy to clean with water and soap.

DUNEMER wheels must be inflated to the diameter indicated on the website (please note: your model number is indicated on the invoice. If you do not have your invoice, please refer to the paragraph "Finding the model name of my wheel").

If the wheel is smaller than the diameter indicated, it can be re-inflated using a standard pump.

If the wheel is larger than the diameter indicated, it can be deflated by inserting a balloon needle into the rubber valve and exerting slight pressure on the wheel.

DUNEMER wheels are durable and built to last for many years. Many customers with standard wheel use, in rough conditions and at slow speeds, keep their wheels for more than 10 years.

Nevertheless, in the event of an impact, wheels can be punctured. If the puncture is slight to moderate, it can be easily repaired.

You'll need super glue (for punctures under 1 mm) or PVC glue (for punctures over 1 mm). We do not recommend the use of tire or inner-tube rubber glue, or anti-puncture spray.

The steps to follow are as follows:

- Clean and dry the DUNEMER wheel

- Apply negative pressure to the DUNEMER wheel, allowing the glue to be sucked in.

- Apply the glue to the puncture over the entire wall thickness

- DUNEMER wheels have a wall thickness of 7 to 8 mm. For a better repair, it's important that the glue penetrates and is evenly distributed over the length and thickness of the puncture.

- Allow to dry according to the glue recommendations

- Re-inflate the DUNEMER wheel using a balloon needle inserted in the rubber valve, respecting the diameter indicated in the product catalog.

DUNEMER wheels are durable and built to last for many years. Many customers who use their wheels as standard, in rough terrain at slow speeds, keep them for more than 20 years.

Nevertheless, a bulge or permanent deformation of the wheel may occur in the event of inappropriate use:

Over-inflation (beyond the diameter indicated on the website)

Overloading

Exposure to extreme heat

If the bulge is slight, it can be repaired. The steps to follow are as follows:

Boil the wheel for 20 minutes in a sufficiently large saucepan in a bain-marie.

Leave to cool slowly in the bain-marie water

If the hub of a DUNEMER wheel is damaged, it is possible to buy a new one. All you need to change a hub is a screwdriver.

You already have a DUNEMER wheel and would like to find the reference?

DUNEMER wheels are named XXX-PYYY or XXXX-PYYY. These names appear in the product catalog on the website and on the invoice received with the order.

If the invoice is not available to you, it is possible to reconstruct the name of your wheel:

XXX or XXXX corresponds to the number engraved on the side of the wheel

YYY corresponds to the wheel's tire weight (excluding hub) in decigrams.

Wheel tire weight = weight of wheel with hub - weight of hub

Here's an estimate of the weight of hubs alone:

1XX or 10XX wheel hubs weigh ~30 grams

15XX wheel hubs weigh ~120 grams

6XX or 10XX wheel hubs weigh ~110 grams

7XX wheel hubs weigh ~360 grams

You have two options:

Changing the shaft

Sleeving the shaft - This involves inserting a longer, wider tube around the shaft. The inside diameter of this tube must match the diameter of the existing shaft. The outside diameter of this tube must be adapted to the hub bore of the DUNEMER wheel.

Most DUNEMER wheels are available with several bores (please refer to the product data sheets). Depending on the DUNEMER wheel model, the bores are 27, 21, 16, 12 and 10 mm.

Wheels with names starting with 7xx and 15xx are available with 27 and 21 mm bores.

Wheels with names starting with 620 are available in bores 21, 16, 12, 10 mm

Wheels whose names begin with 619, 1011 and 111 are available in bore 16, 12, 10 mm

The wheel whose name begins with 624 is available in bore 21 mm

The wheel whose name starts with 116 is available in bore 12 and 10 mm

For professional rolling stock designers, CAD files are available for DUNEMER wheels: 619-P45, 620-P100, 624-P180, 1524-P150 and 737-P400.

DUNEMER wheels have been designed to absorb shocks, not get bogged down on soft ground, facilitate overcoming obstacles and absorb vibrations.

These properties are essentially ensured by the material, the manufacturing process and the tire inflation pressure. The result is a tire that is both flexible and resistant, which allows the DUNEMER wheel to roll deformed and swallow the imperfections of the terrain, as if you were riding on a cushion of air.

The dimensions - diameter and width - of the tires play a certain and secondary role in the properties of the wheels.

DUNEMER wheels have been designed to deform and reform, and thus provide the aforementioned damping and stability properties.

Loaded to its optimum load capacity, the DUNEMER wheel is deformed and rolls deformed. This design improves ride comfort.

On soft, unstable ground - like the beach, sand, pebbles, gravel, snow, or mud - the wheels won't get stuck.

The lift and the flexibility of the DUNEMER wheels allow on soft and/or unstable ground, not to sink, to remain on the surface, like a flotation and thus to ensure a fluid rolling.

On uneven ground - such as dirt, stones, agricultural land, fields or summer ski resorts - the wheels absorb shocks

The flexibility of DUNEMER wheels allows on uneven ground to absorb obstacles and vibrations, as if a shock absorber were integrated.

Slab, concrete, paved road and/or with potholes, etc.

On hard and uneven floors, the wheels absorb vibrations

The flexibility of the DUNEMER wheels allows on hard and smooth floors to absorb vibrations and floor imperfections. They provide stability and comfort in the ride.

In addition, they facilitate the crossing of obstacles, such as steps or sidewalks.

DUNEMER wheels have been designed for slow speeds, below 15 km/h.

DUNEMER wheels have been designed to be steering wheels and traction wheels.

DUNEMER wheels can be motorized for low speeds (< 15 km/h).

DUNEMER wheels are not suitable for motorized land vehicles intended for public roads (for example, the wheels are not suitable for supporting trailers towed by cars).

DUNEMER wheels do not have ball bearings. However, a ball bearing cage can be supplied to allow the addition of a ball bearing.

The different models of DUNEMER wheels cover a wide range:

Optimal load capacity: from 25 to 150 kg

Dimensions:

Diameter: from 14 to 50 cm

Width: from 8 to 26 cm

Bore:

Size: 27, 21, 16, 12 and 10mm

Profile: smooth (or hexagonal for 10 mm bores)

Colours: Yellow, Red, Orange, Anise Green, Light Blue, Dark Blue, Gray and White

Tire profile tread pattern: smooth, grooved and honeycomb

DUNEMER wheels are of high quality. Their average lifespan is more than 20 years for standard use, in rough environments and at slow speeds.

In the event of a puncture or permanent deformation following inappropriate use, DUNEMER wheels are easily repairable (see “How to maintain your DUNEMER wheels”).

DUNEMER wheels are made of PVC. They are manufactured by rotational molding in French factories. The manufacturing process has been proven for more than 50 years.

DUNEMER wheels float. They can be used as a float for amphibious devices.

The tire and the hub of the DUNEMER wheels are made of PVC. The hub fixing screws (if any) are made of stainless steel, they do not rust. DUNEMER wheels are therefore suitable for bathing in salty environments if necessary.

The qualities of DUNEMER wheels are primarily due to the elasticity and flexibility of the material, thus allowing deformation.

Competing wheels labeled as “all terrain”, base their quality on the width of the wheels only - without being wider than the DUNEMER wheels. Their material is rigid and does not allow deformation.

Thus, on uneven ground, competing wheels pass obstacles with shocks, and do not provide the damping and vibration absorption qualities that make the rolling of DUNEMER wheels comfortable.

On soft and unstable ground, competing wheels deform the ground leaving a large footprint. DUNEMER wheels deform, preserve soils better, roll more fluidly and/or on more complex soils.

In addition, competing wheels often have a very thin wall, which makes them difficult to repair. DUNEMER wheels have a wall of 7 to 8 mm, which makes them easily repairable (see “maintenance” section).
